"There are two ways to learn lessons in life, the first is by observing and learning from the behavior of
other folks and second is by getting hit in the face with a 2 x 4 yourself. Both will help you learn the lesson,
but one is certainly less painful."
~ Jefe Smith from his book, LIFE, AMERICA and the ROAD

Joshua Tree

IMG_2755A Joshua Tree is a bizarre looking cactus-like plant that grows in isolated pockets of the Mojave Desert. A pile of them grow in one part of the Mojave that has been designated Joshua Tree National Park, not too far from Palm Springs, California.  Strange and beautiful rock clusters along with the “trees” themselves make Joshua Tree a great place to visit on a motorcycle ride.

DSCN1894A group of us rode into Yucca Valley, the nearest town and bought some sandwiches to take into the park, so we could park the bikes and hike into the rocks for a desert picnic. The near-empty and well surfaced  roads in the park have mostly 45MPH speed limits and with all the scenery, you really don’t want to cruise any faster. A strong recommendation to visit this place on a motorcycle and also a strong recommendation to bring your lunch, so you can hike a little and savor the area.
